Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third child of the family. In her early years, Ruth Roman's father, a carnival barker, passed away and forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as an attendant or cleaner to help them survive. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She went to school in Boston. She only attended the school for two years, before going on to pursue an acting profession. She faced many obstacles on the path she chose to pursue. In New York she was hired to do a photo shoot in a crime magazine however, no theatre job opportunities came up. Then in NYC, she was employed at a bar, as an entry-point girl, before quitting and moving back to Boston. She made the ends meet by working as an usherette throughout the day, and in the evening, she performed with the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. In addition, she was a drama student and eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
